Just So Writing Class
Selections from Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories, a delightful classic of animal origin tales, provide opportunities for students to learn about story elements, literary terms, summarizing, sequencing, and relationships. Students write summaries of each story and an imaginative “Just So” story of their own at the end of the readings. On the final day of class, students present their original stories orally. Parents and friends are welcome to attend this program and celebrate the students’ authorship.
Hosted by the American Chinese School of Greater Detroit (ACSGD), this class is held at Derby Middle School on Saturdays during the school year.
This class is part of Inkwell’s Authorcraft series.
Each work in the Authorcraft series is carefully chosen for its literary quality, worthwhile thematic content, and appeal to children. Students read a classic work of literature, appreciate its author’s craft, and then write an original work based on that author’s genre and style. Apprenticing with a master, students are poised for success.
