Have you ever tried to convince your parents to raise your allowance?
Has your teacher ever returned one of your essays with the comment not enough evidence?
Have you and a friend every debated which movie you were going to see on the weekend?
We all find ourselves in situations in which we want others to listen open-mindedly to our point of view. Perhaps you feel your voice is ignored or dismissed. Inkwell can help.
Perhaps you are struggling to write position papers that are logically reasoned and persuasive. Inkwell can help.
Class Description:
Essay Craft is part of Inkwell’s proprietary Writing Wraps curriculum–a structured, incremental, and formulaic writing program that supports students’ success. Students learn the basics of argumentative writing and how to draft, revise, and polish academic essays. They follow the requirements of standardized rubrics, which by their consistency develop mastery and independence. Developmentally appropriate for middle school students who are beginning to form their own opinions, Essay Craft teaches how to argue them convincingly and compellingly.
You will interact with your teacher and peers through the whole writing process, learning how to craft paragraphs of introduction, pro argument, rebuttal, transition, and conclusion.
Skills Taught:
- argumentation
- essay content, structure, and style
