Essay Craft Camp
recommended for grades 6-8
teachers–Karen Boniface and Michael Strubler
This writing camp expands the paragraphing skills students learn in Wraps Level I. Focusing on the argumentative essay, students study and practice the various types of paragraphs that comprise argument–introduction, pro, con, transition, and conclusion. They learn how to formulate a strong claim and to support it with compelling evidence. During sessions, students learn and practice brainstorming ideas, formulating a strong claim and supporting it with compelling evidence, and structuring an essay to express their thoughts clearly. Peer and teacher editing provide helpful feedback for students to improve their essays. Some work at home is expected.
This writing camp is part of Inkwell’s Writing Wraps series.
