Writing Class: ACT & SAT Essay
recommended for grades 8-10
Though essays on both the ACT and SAT exams are optional, they can be very important, depending on what schools and scholarships students are applying for. This writing class helps 8ththrough 10thgrade students develop the skills and confidence to respond to these standardized writing prompts. Both essay tasks are deconstructed and explained, appropriate devices taught, and parts of the essay formulated and practiced. Students write real timed tests and receive simulated scores and feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of their writing. In the ACT segment students learn argumentation, and in the SAT segment they learn rhetorical analysis.
Hosted by the American Chinese School of Greater Detroit (ACSGD), this class is held at Derby Middle School on Saturdays during the school year.
