teacher–Michael Strubler
This class helps to prepare students for the verbal portion of the ACT, an examination that colleges use to make admissions, scholarship, and advanced placement decisions. Since the ACT measures students’ knowledge base and skill sets, it is a test for which students can prepare. Overviewing two of the four required multiple-choice tests–the English and reading portions–this class also includes practice for the optional essay. The class is designed to acquaint students with the test format and to help them discover what concepts or skills they need to practice before taking the actual exam. Students study lessons on grammar and comprehension, practice problem types, take real ACT timed tests, formulate test strategies, write essays, and complete homework assignments to develop test-taking skills.
