Authorcraft Series: Short Stories
co-teachers–Karen Boniface and Michael Strubler
In this collaborative class based on Robert McClosky’s beloved Homer Price, students work in groups to plan an imaginary community and invent characters who live there. Each student writes his or her own story about an event involving a problem one of the characters has to resolve. Students learn teamwork skills as they plan, write, edit, and publish a chapter book combining all the stories from their group. On the final day of class, students exhibit their books and read selections. Parents and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate the students’ authorship.
